What is pediatric occupational therapy?

It is a branch of rehabilitation medicine with services provided by certified occupational therapists. The realm of pediatrics focuses more specifically on children (0-18 years), working with their families to improve their independence and skills in the everyday activities that occupy their time during their daily lives. A child’s occupations include play, self-care, sleep, education, leisure, and social participation. Occupational therapy emphasizes helping people to live their lives to the fullest, participating in the activities that bring them joy, and problem-solving ways to do the things they love despite injury or diagnosis.

Patient and parent testimonials:

“Megan has helped our 2 year old son immensely! He really struggled with some sensory processing issues particularly with loud noises and was fearful of situations with other kids at times if they would cry or scream. She worked with him weekly and he looked forward to his appointments so much! She got to know him and interests and made each session very personalized to him. We also got very easy strategies and plans from her to use in our daily lives that made a big difference for him. He has become so confident, able to speak up for himself and use his strategies on his own to help in stressful situations. Our family is so thankful for Ms. Megan and her help with our son and we would recommend her to any kid who needs OT! My son says “Ms. Megan is SO nice!” ” -mother of a 2 year old patient
